Ananse is a folk hero from Ghana, W.A. In fact, in Ghana, they say all stories belong to Ananse. If you follow the Atlantic Slave Trade route, you’ll see that folks were taken from the Gold Coast (the name it was known as before their independence in 1957) and dispersed throughout the “new world.” One way that we verify this “journey” is through the folk tales that are told in several Caribbean countries, i.e. – Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, and even the southern states of the U.S. This presentation will be an interactive exploration of the stories throughout the region. Participants will help tell the Ananse stories as we travel from one Caribbean country to another.
